Don’t Fall Victim to These 4 Plumbing Emergencies!

plumber-fixing-plumbing-emergencyHere’s the thing about plumbing emergencies, or even just a minor plumbing problem—they never happen at convenient times! And sometimes, you simply can’t wait for a contractor’s regular office hours to begin before you manage the problem. Fortunately, our team offers 24-hour plumbing in Palatine, IL and beyond.

But what actually constitutes an emergency?

Is It Urgent?

Honestly, if your plumbing problem seems urgent to you, there’s no need to overthink it—simply call a professional plumber. It may turn out that the problem is relatively minor, but it’s always better to err on the side of caution, particularly when it comes to protecting your property. It’s no problem for us to check it out if you think you have an emergency on your hands. There are 4 emergencies in particular that we respond to pretty often.

1: A Drop in Water Pressure

If you notice a slow decline in water pressure, there’s a good chance that there are pinhole leaks or some type of blockage slowly building up that’s causing the issue. If there is a sudden drop in water pressure though, it likely means you had a pipe rupture or some other problem with the main water line that should be addressed right away.

2: A Busted Pipe

Burst pipes most often occur due to frozen pipes in the winter. It’s not the actual freezing process that does your pipes harm, but rather the thawing process. What happens as the pipes thaw is that a negative pressure is created, pushing on the walls of the pipe until it busts.

3: An Overflowing Toilet

If a toilet won’t stop running and begins to overflow, it’s pretty apparent you need a plumber right away. Fortunately, you can shut off the fee line valve while you wait for assistance.

4: Widespread Clogging

A single, superficial sink clog may be something you can break through with a plunger. However, if you have stopped up drains widespread throughout your home, it’s possible you have a deeper problem down in your sewer and drainage system. This can eventually lead to backups around your home and even sewage backing up into your property. This definitely counts as an emergency!

Trust a Pro for Your Plumbing Emergencies

Sure, it’s easy to pour some store-bought liquid drain cleaner down the drain for a clog, or call your handy neighbor for that backed up toilet, but this is pretty much just putting a Band-Aid on the situation, and not actually resolving it at the core.

For instance, if you frequently have clogs and always attack them with chemical drain cleaners, you’re actually doing more harm than good to your drainpipes, which will begin corroding over time due to the caustic materials in these cleaners. And for something like an overflowing toilet, you need to know what caused the backup to begin with so it can be remedied.

Fortunately, you don’t need to look very far for a qualified plumber!
