3 Signs You Need to Replace Your Pipes

Chicago, IL has its share of older houses, and with older houses come older plumbing systems that may need replacements or upgrades. It’s not a pleasant prospect to consider, but in some cases it may be necessary. And the good news is that you have trained and experienced plumbers on hand to not only replace your pipes, but to do so with speed and efficiency to make your plumbing system function better. Here are 3 signs you need to replace your pipes as expediently as possible.

1.     Rusty Water

In some cases, rusty water may come from a hot water heater that needs to be replaced, typically if the rust or discoloration only arises when you turn on the hot water. If the discoloration arises from cold water as well as hot, it means there’s corrosion somewhere within the pipe system itself. A trained plumber can pinpoint the corroded area and safely replace the affected piping.

2.     Lead Pipes

Lead pipes are unsafe and no longer up to code, but Chicago is an old town and some buildings carry outdated plumbing. That can pose a health risk to you and your family if they’re left in place; you need to replace them as quickly as possible.

3.     Leaks and Pits Show Up

If you can spot pitting and corrosion in your pipes, that’s probably a good sign they need replacing. Otherwise, they will eventually spring a leak and/or add rust and other contamination to your water. Similarly, if that corrosion has already sprung a leak, then clearly it’s time to replace the corroded pipe. This is also true if leaks continually show up in the same length of pipe, regardless of whether or not it’s overtly corroded or not.

Whenever you spot signs that you need to replace your pipes, call upon the experts at Reliance Plumbing to do the job right!
